In what year did the world's first pizzeria open in Naples?

Antica Pizzeria Port'Alba is a pizzeria in Naples, Italy, which is widely believed to be the world's first pizzeria.

First established in 1738 as a stand for peddlers, Antica Pizzeria Port'Alba was opened in 1830 in the town center at Via Port'Alba 18.

The restaurant replaced street vendors who would make pizza in wood-fired ovens and bring it onto the street, keeping it warm in small tin stoves they balanced on their head.

It soon became a prominent meeting place for men in the street.

Best places to eat in Naples Italy

Best places to eat in Naples Italy

In Naples, you'll eat well. This is a God's honest truth.

Naples is not only the country of the pizza, but it's often a simple cuisine, not poor, but of homemade. Deprived of fantasies, rich of tastes and grandmothers tricks.

It is the kitchen of the Trattorie, that of the meat sauce, of the Genovese and of the spaghetti with clams.

But it is not so easy to manage the endless offers of this city, made of polite innkeepers and good cuisine but also of whom rise the prices and lower the quality.

That's why I have compiled a guide to the best restaurants in Naples.

Antica Latteria

In the heart of the Chiaia's district, there is a pleasant restaurant. Small and always full of people. Perfumed and colorful, where are mixed the noises of the dishes, of the toasts, and of the laughs.

A place where the tradition stays anchored to the most classical gastronomy, while around the locals open and close, rashly, without leaving a sign.

Instead, the Antica Latteria is there, unchanged since the '50, with its parmigiana of eggplants, the meatballs (fried or with meat sauce), the Genovese and some gastronomic contemporary intrusions.

Antica Capri

This small tavern, hidden among the folklore of the Spanish Districts, has a specialty made with pasta and beans rich with seafood covered with pizza's pasta, cooked in the oven.

Do you still have to taste it? What are you waiting for!

Le Figlie di Iorio

There is nothing to do, the genetics it is not an opinion. There are things that are shared in family, as the ability to cook and doing it well.

That's what happens to Luciana Iorio, sister of the famous Teresa (first woman to win the world champion of the pizza).

The specialty of the house is the omelet of macaroni, the pasta with potatoes and buffalo cheese or with vegetables.

This is the typical Neapolitan's tavern, what do you want more?

Rossopomodoro

At Rossopomodoro you'll eat pizza. Wrong.

Or better, not entirely true, because Rossopomodoro is also a restaurant and that of via Partenope deserves a special mention.

For all of you that have eaten too much pizza, or that simply wants to enjoy the sea, my suggestion is to walk on the waterfronts, get drunk of saltiness and sit at a table of Rossopomodoro.

Imagine now yourself with the sun that heats your face and the wind that mess up with the table clothes.
Now ask a "spaghetti with two tomatoes or an Impepata of mussels", and a glass of white wine.

Drink, taste, dunk. Enjoy.
